Wandering Mazatlán’s Centro (#17)

It was a delight to stay in Mazatlán, Mexico for a month following our big road trip from Florida (Orlando to Tulsa, Fort Worth to Laredo, and Torreón to Mazatlán if you want more on that)! Our place was a busy 20 minute walk to the beach, but once there, we very much enjoyed the promenade heading southeast from Letras de Mazatlán (part of our selfie above). We enjoyed the big waves, the fun energy, and even made some time to appreciate and create some art in the sand!

We ran along the promenade for exercise, wandered here, and enjoyed the beach. A few times we walked all the way to Centro and Olas Atlas beach (though it turns out the bus is a great option too)! On one of these long walks, we did our own informal walking tour where we enjoyed the gorgeous exterior of the Catedral Basílica de la Inmaculada Concepción and the Plaza República.

Visiting the market was a delight and we enjoyed the stalls in the Mercado Pino Suárez. Our two favorite treats were “Cocadas” which are similar to coconut macaroons and the “Suaves” which are soft marshmallows with shredded coconut on the outside (delicious in coffee, BTW). We meandered through the streets of Centro with various restaurants and gorgeous flowers and stumbled across the X&O Board Game Cafe! We later stopped by for bingo, lunch, and board games. It was a blast playing The Lost Ruins of Arnak during our time there.

Our walk back was a fun one where we stopped at a few of the statues along the promenade including the Monumento a Pedro Infante and the Monumento a La Continuidad de La Vida del Deno. We also enjoyed taking photos of the fishing boats.

Finally, here’s a video of a huge wave we captured while walking. Amazing!
